Melissa grew up on a cattle ranch in Colorado; when she was 25 she took her first leap of faith and ventured to Santa Barbara California. Surrounded by ocean and mountains, Melissa indulges in the Santa Barbara lifestyle, but enjoys road trips throughout California to places like Napa -- the wine country, the lavender fields in Santa Ynez and Cambria, a foggy beach town. She teaches at the local community college and is also a spa health and travel writer, which led her to places like Kauai and even Tuscany where she lived for three months. While in Italy she lived with a host family, took Italian language lessons and visited spas and met wonderful characters during her travels to Venice, Milan, Rome, Positano and Florence. Melissa has a Masters Degree from Azusa Pacific University and is published in Chicken Soup for the Soul; Lessons learned from the Cat and is also the author of The Little College Handbook which is written to encourage first generation college students like herself.
